BHALO proudly works alongside its sister organization, BABSHA (Bangladeshi American Business Society of Hillside Avenue), to strengthen and support small businesses in Jamaica, Queens. Together, we’re helping local entrepreneurs thrive by improving our commercial corridors, building community connections, and showcasing the vibrant
culture of Hillside Avenue. Through funding from the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS), including the Merchant Organizing Grant and the Avenue NYC Commercial Revitalization Grant,BABSHA has led a range of impactful initiatives such as:
• Creating a business directory to connect and promote local merchants.
• Leading beautification projects including street cleanings, mural installations, and storefront upgrades.
• Conducting merchant interviews and meetings to strengthen business collaboration.
• Developing district marketing materials such as social media campaigns, storefront illustrations, posters, and stickers to celebrate our neighborhood’s identity.
• Hosting community events including street fairs and night markets that bring residents and visitors together to experience the best of Jamaica.
Through this partnership, BHALO and BABSHA are revitalizing Hillside Avenue and empowering immigrant-owned small businesses to grow, connect, and contribute to a more vibrant Queens
